This Earth Day, why not get a little closer to the nature in your very own backyard, by paying a visit to one of these local parks and preserves? Sometimes, you may find yourself wanting to escape city life altogether in favor of a tranquil day spent within a natural setting. When that happens, check out Government Canyon State Natural Area. The area is over 12,000 acres large and features a number of natural formations typical of the Texas Hill Country. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a hiking pro to visit this park. The natural area is home to several types of trails perfect for all skill levels, and they also give guided canyon hikes.

Located just north of Downtown, Brackenridge Park may not be remote, but it makes up for it with plenty of things to do and historic charm. The park, which was built in 1899, is believed to have been a gathering place for thousands of years. Soak up its quiet beauty and marvel at its history in its lush, green areas, or visit one of the park’s many on-site attractions, which include a large golf course, San Antonio Zoo, the Witte Museum, and more.

Because Natural Bridge Caverns get you closer to Texas’ beautiful caves and caverns than any other experience in the state. In fact, it’s our state’s largest underground attraction! Bear witness to rock formations millions of years old, and when you’re done, swing by their on-site mining company, visit the Adventure Course, or fly across the Texas Hill Country on zip-lines.
